He most enjoys novels that explore identity, belonging, relationships, art and creativity, and the natural and built environments. In nonfiction, Miles is particularly drawn to social histories, journalistic deep-dives, cultural criticism, personal essays, science, environmental writing, and progressive voices. His favorite works interrogate themes of power, capital, class, justice, the more-than-human world, and life in rapidly changing or unprecedented times. His interests tend toward the unusual and the overlooked, but he welcomes a fresh take on a familiar subject.
