ABOUT THE AGENT:

Marissa Brown is an associate agent with Pippin Properties, Inc.

Marissa has always been a reader. She is never without a book (or three, just in case). But it wasn’t until high school that she realized she could have a career in books. She studied English Literature at DePauw University in Indiana prior to attending the NYU Summer Publishing Institute. There she was introduced to the world of literary agencies and immediately knew she wanted to become an agent, which led her to Pippin. Marissa also assists in managing the licensing of Pippin titles for live stage and audio.

MARISSA IS SEEKING:

Marissa is open to a wide range of children’s book authors, illustrators, and author-illustrators.

“Across the board, she is on the lookout for stories by underrepresented and marginalized creators.”
  • For picture books, she is interested in lyrical texts with a focus on friends, family, big ideas, or feelings.
  • For middle grade and young adult, she is drawn to fast-paced, high-stakes narratives featuring found family or ensemble casts and poignant coming-of-age stories.
  • For graphic novels, she welcomes all genres for all ages but has a particular affinity for romance, slice-of-life narratives or spooky, action-filled adventures.

She is also open to select science fiction, fantasy, and romance projects with strong world-building, complex dynamics, and characters with a unique voice and perspective. You can see her full manuscript wish list here.

She is not the best fit for rhyming picture books, lesson- or issues-based books, horror, or historical fiction.

HOW TO SUBMIT:

As always, please review each agency’s submission guidelines before you submit.

“I (Marissa) am currently open to queries. Please review my wishlist, and if you’d like to query me after doing so, please submit your query via Query Manager.”
