ABOUT THE AGENT:

Ashley Lopez joined Massie McQuilkin & Altman Literary Agents in 2025.

Ashley received her MFA in Fiction from Sarah Lawrence College and has over a decade of publishing experience.

Formerly the Director of Foreign Rights and an agent at WLA Books, she has worked on international and
New York Times bestsellers, bringing a global perspective to her authors.

Ashley is the co-founder of
Pigeon Pages Literary Journal where she served as Managing Editor. She is drawn to writing that creates its own sense of movement on the page, and stories that center unforgettable characters and singular experiences that, once captured, speak to something universal. She loves writers who aren’t afraid to raise the stakes, and smart people sharing their obsessions.

Ashley is a member of AALA. She represents literary and book club fiction, grounded speculative, horror, thrillers, narrative and practical nonfiction, as well as select poetry and YA.

ASHLEY IS SEEKING:

Ashley wants to work with writers who have a strong point of view and an eye for language.

She is particularly interested in:

  • Horror! Any kind truly. She wants her electric bill to be astronomical because of all the scary manuscripts she's reading.
  • Literary fiction of any kind with a commercial hook (meaning descriptors like “lyrical” are not doing the heavy lifting in the pitch)
  • Realistic female friendship stories of all ages (and particularly queer friendship stories)
  • Family stories (particularly multiple POV family stories and mother/daughter narratives)
  • Reportage. Get her the inside scoop!
  • Narratives exploring a piece of culture that’s been erased or muted especially from writers who are personally connected to that culture.

HOW TO QUERY:

Please note: When we post a New Agent Spotlight, we try to make sure the agent is open to submissions at the time of posting. But as time goes by, an agent can close and open to submissions at any time. If some time has passed since this spotlight was posted, you will want to check their agency website and/or QueryManager before submitting, to be sure.

Please email queries directly to Ashley at: [email protected].

You should include the word “query” as well as the project’s title in the subject line. Include the first 10 pages of your manuscript (or for a nonfiction proposal, the synopsis and either a detailed chapter outline or a sample chapter) in the body of the email below your query letter. Please do not include any attachments to your email. If you haven’t heard from Ashley within 4-6 weeks, your project is not a good fit for her.
